When you get back from your trip to FL, please take a look at your calendar and see if the third weekend in October is available. If you have never been to visit Lynchburg, I assure you that you are in for a treat. The village keeps up its very old appearance, and many of the original buildings associated with the Jack Daniel’s distillery are being restored and/or rebuilt. They have an annual event in the village square there that the merchants all participate in, and the Dixie Outfitters store would like to have you present. If you come, I will try to dust off my pipes and stand by you and accompany you there. I can’t do much in the way of marching: age and old injuries have caught up with my poor feet and right knee, but I believe that just standing there with you will suffice. I know of no other small village that has intentionally retained its old-time atmosphere as well as this one. Tennessee is much more friendly to the Southern cause than some other places that the Yankees have taken over.
The owner of the store says that he has met you…his name is Mike Davis, and he would be thrilled to put you up or else you could stay with my lovely wife, Syble and me. You probably remember her as the black lady that accompanied me on our Southern expeditions with you, particularly in Austin. We were finally able to get married last month and we are so happy! We now live in Winchester, TN which is a hop skip and jump from Lynchburg.
Anyway, please try to fit us into your busy schedule. If you can come, we will, of course, need to know what your fee is and whether you are willing to stay in one of our homes or need motel accommodations.
Please write.
God bless
George
