Mr. Edgerton,

Hello. My name is Nathaniel Sam Shapiro. I’m a playwright and producer in New York City, where I’ve put on shows Off Broadway. I’m writing you because of a new project I am working on, which will be a play about Civil War reenactment. I want to write about this topic because I feel that the Civil War and the way it is remembered is incredibly pertinent in this day and age. I have always loved history, and always heavily research my topics before writing. I’ve been studying the long history of Civil War reenactment, and came across your name. I have a particular interest in the history of Black Confederates, which I understand you know a great deal about and are involved in.

I’m planning on coming to Virginia and possibly North Carolina in late April. I intend on being a part of reenactments. I am not sure where you’re located, but understand you often travel. If you happen to be in the area, I would love to meet and have a thoughtful conversation about your work and my project. I also may be able to come further south, closer to you. If that does not work, I am happy to speak over the phone, email, or video chat. Whatever works for you.

Please let me know if this would be of interest. Thank you for your time.
