Defending the Cofederate Flag

I just wantend to inform you that I am doing a research paper on, “Defending the Confederate Flag” at school. I choose this topic because I wanted to inform my classmates and teachers as well on the true meaning. I was shocked to hear what I heard from one girl and a former teacher(a teacher!!!). The teacher said James, you don’t know what that flag represents. I tried to plain but like the bible says “You can’t talk sense into a fool, they can’t appreciate it.” It really gets to me, when people come at me and tell me my flag is racist. I was preaching to my friends about how people always say it’s racist but they never took the time to actually think, and research.

I thought the flag was racist when I was little, because of what was taught at school. Then one day I was looking for a flag the represents the south, which lead me to my research on the flag itself. I NEVER THOUGHT I’D HAVE TWO GIANT CONFEDERATE FLAGS IN MY ROOM. I keep a sticker from the SCV in my student handbook. You, HK are one of the reasons I made the conversion.

P.S. I will try to send you and Southern Heritage 411 a copy of the essay once it’s finish. Also, HK what were your views of the flag in the past? Where you taught the true meaning of the flag at home or in school?

Dear James,

Contrary to what people say about how I learned about the flag and my homeland; it was my mom and dad (Rev. R.R. Edgerton) who taught us about the flag and our Southern Heritage. It began one day on a road trip to South Carolina when a big rig parked at a gas station with the Battle flag posted on it’s grill. I am so proud that the Sons of Confederate Veterans honored my mom as the only Black woman to receive a Confederate State Funeral, as well as the North Carolina Order of the Confederate Rose honoring her with a Heritage Award issued annually in her name. I am sure had my dad been alive when the attack began in earnest against our flag, he too would have faced the same accolades. God bless you.
