Dear Commander Givens,

I know that your plate is full as you prepare for the Big Dance this weekend (SCV National Re-Union). I am truly sorry that I again may not be able to afford to be there to see so many of my Southern family. And should I not, please say hello for me. I am truly proud of your leadership at a time when the Sons are called upon so much to exercise the Charge they have been sworn to uphold in protecting the name of the bravest, most courageous and honorable fighting man to donn the uniform of any military man of any time on God’s earth, and that of those honorable citizens who too fought a different kind of war as they were criminally attacked while the men were away. I know that I am singing to the choir, but you know that I love to sing.

I write to ask if you would please consider asking all those who gather (the men of the SCV, the women of the UDC and the Order of the Confederate Rose) as they meet, to pass the HAT for our young warrior, Ms. Candice Yvonna Hardwick of 2942 Hunter Way, Dillon, S.C. 29536. And if you all would consider those citations or medals of honor for both Candice and Korean War Veteran and SCV member Sgt. Perry Thrasher who lies in the hospital ward of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Memphis in the same mental anguish that our ancestors suffered in places like Point Lookout, Maryland. Sgt. Thrasher and his daughter, Ms. Boatner have expressed their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love that Sgt. Thrasher and their family has received, and for the comforting sense of relief that Commander Lee Millar of the Honorable Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp in Memphis has given and gives to their family knowing that they are at their beckoning call. Commander Millar should be commended for his leadership. I know that I am truly grateful for and to him and Mr. Rick Boswell. God bless you Sir, and if you have a need to call upon me, I stand ready to serve.

Your brother,

HK
