To: siegels1 [siegels1@mindspring.com]Dear Ms. Lunelle,
Thursday morning as I made my way to Elizabethon, Tennessee, I would stop for gas, only to be approached by two young ladies who called out my name, gave me a hug and thanked me for all I do for due justice for the Southland of America and its people.
Then they both would give me a tongue thrashing for not granting the young lady from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, an interview on Silent Sam.
After the whipping, I told them that on this very morning I had, for almost an hour, spoken with the young lady. She asked me why I would be opposed to removing the Confederate soldiers monument, “Silent Sam”. And, I told her first and foremost because I was Southern.
I told her that there were many Silent Sams on university grounds all across the South: the Mississippi Greys at Ole Miss; the Citadel in South Carolina. Mere babies who sat in their school rooms listening to the reports about the men of Grant and Sherman carrying out the total warfare orders from Lincoln to take the theater of war to the door steps of defenseless old men, women and children of the South. To burn their homes, barns, to include the farm animals, to loot, murder and rape at will, because there would never be an accounting for what they do.
These babies could sit no longer, and gave their lives in defense of the Southland of America. They are with us no more, but the memory of their noble deeds, and upright lives, of what they did, and sought to do for the good of the South will be cherished to the end of time. And those monuments are their graves and memorials to this testimony.
I told her that anyone with a high regard for truth, and the study of history, has to be disheartened when truth is shouted down by ignorance. And especially for me, a former 1st Vice, and President, of the Asheville, N.C., NAACP, to watch this organization usher in historical distortions, political lies and advance to the point of destroying a people and all that is true and honorable in their traditions for the sake of increasing their depleting coffers is beyond description.
Using the world wide economic institution of slavery to obscure and misrepresent the economic, constitutional and political tyrannies that provoked Southern secession, has been the weapon of choice to dupe the Southern African, and the whole of America for far too long. And those of us who fight to remedy the effects of the lie, find ourselves in a cess pool of character assassination; just as done to me at the City Council meeting on Monday, December 4, 2017, in Lakeland, Florida.
A supposed NAACP member who did not get the memo from higher ups, to leave HK Edgerton alone would, before the honorable members of the Council and citizens and, I hope for their sake, they would adhere to that charge. God bless you!
Your brother,
HK
