Dear Ms. Lunelle,

The Bradenton Herald Newspaper would conveniently leave out in their reporting of the Manatee County Commissioner workshop meeting on January 16, 2018, the fiery exchange between myself and the thuggish County Commissioner, Charles Smith, who led the Black Lives Matter, Antifa and other George Soros inspired so called protest march of the Confederate soldiers monument that was destroyed by a group of street cleaners who had no expertise as they tried to remove it from the County Courthouse grounds in downtown Bradenton.

And, later gathering on the County grounds, leaving behind a clean up nightmare for the same workers, and arguably a mess the citizens of the county would have to pay for.

The questions that I posed to the Council in the public comment section that sent Smith into a tirade were: (1) Where is the line drawn when a member of your staff, or body, joins in on a protest don in clothing that they know clearly marks them as staff, or government officials, especially if they are voting on the concern put forward that drew the protest.

Smith became unglued as he screamed out that I was out of order because what I asked was not an agenda item. The Council Chair would at first agree until my clarification led to her changing her mind with the words “continue on Mr. Edgerton!”

I would then turn my attention and questioning to the Sheriff: What is your policy on a person, or organization, that communicates a threat to members of an elected body with intent of swaying their vote?

President Trump said that he would stay out of the Confederate soldiers monument issue, and leave it up to the people of the States affected. I would conclude that all across the country folks like myself have watched as a dark spot has fallen upon this body, as the will of the people and their governing body has been scared away.

The commissioners would call for a break, and as I stood in the hallway amongst those attending, Smith would intentionally bump into me in what I perceived as an act of intimidation. Many would say that I should have summoned the Sheriff. I would decline to do so, instead accepting not only the hugs from many of the attending citizens, but also from several of the Commissioners who openly expressed their thanks for Mr. McCallister and I for attending the meeting, and placing forward an issue swept under the table. Deliberate omission by the media of pertinent facts is not new to me. God bless you!

Your brother,

All across the country, folks like myself watched as this very action was carried out by a member of this body. President Trump said that he would stay out of the Confederate soldiers monument issue, and leave it up to the people of the states. I would tell the Commissioners; you have a dark spot.
