H.L. Hunley Awards Presentations / King High School / Alonso High School

Dear Ms. Lunelle,

It was a high honor for me to be a presenter of the prestigious H.L. Hunley Award on behalf of the Sons of Confederate Veterans to a young King High School Junior
ROTC Cadet in an awards and inspection ceremony held on the grounds of King High School In Tampa, Florida on Thursday morning, March 29, 2018. I would be pleasantly
reprimanded for hugging, to the delight of the spectators, the Cadet who received the award.

Later that evening, once again the high honor would be bestowed upon me by Captain Phil Walters to present the Hunley Award to a Cadet at Alonso High School in Tampa.
Captain Walters would order me not to hug the Cadet this time. However, after the awards ceremony, he and several other Cadets had to give it up.

The Hunley Award is given annually by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in remembrance of the crew of the CSS Hunley, which was the first submarine to sink an enemy
vessel in war time. The entire crew would sink itself, and remain for over 100 years at the ocean bottom in Charleston Harbor before being found several years ago.
