Crowds arrived early to the Auburn City Council meeting, where Pine Hill Cemetery was on the agenda for discussion.

In a committee of the whole pre-meeting session, coucilmembers agreed to add a resolution to the agenda of the regular meeting. The resolution states that the Auburn City Council condemns the actions of Councilman Dowdell and urges him to make an apology to the citizens of Auburn.

Several members of the Sons of the Confederacy from camps around the state were in attendance, as well as many concerned citizens, filling the chambers to near capacity.

Ten Auburn police officers were present, acting as security. Councilman Dowdell had mentioned that he would ask the police department to have officers at the meeting, and Auburn City Manager Charlie Duggan said the meeting would have extra security.
