SPARTA, Tenn. (AP) — White County is getting back a historic Civil War pistol.

The people of White County gave the gun to Confederate Gen. George Dibrell in 1862, but it was later confiscated as a war prize.

A few months ago, the White County Heritage Museum discovered a private collector in Connecticut had the gun.

According to WSMV-TV in Nashville, the museum needed $22,500 to buy it. More than 200 people and businesses donated, with an anonymous donor from Knoxville chipping in the last $10,000 earlier this month.
