‘Racist’ claims defuse once powerful word

Friday, September 18, 2009

I couldn’t agree more with this analysis:

Everybody’s racist, it seems.

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson? Racist, because he shouted "You lie!" at the first black president. Health care protesters, affirmative action supporters? Racist. And Barack Obama? He’s the "Racist in Chief," wrote a leader of the recent conservative protest in Washington.

But if everybody’s racist, is anyone?

Exactly what we in the League of the South have been saying for the last 15 years. When we denounce a central government that ignores Constitutional restraints on its power over the people, we’re branded as "racists." But as more and more people take to the streets — and the polls — to resist an out-of-control Federal government, they’re also dismissed as illegitimate because their motive is nothing but irrational hatred — which makes them terrorist suspects. Welcome to our world.

The beauty of all this is that the accusers only reveal who they are, and what their actual motives are: to forcibly silence those who dare dissent.

I’d say their time is up.
