02.17.2011COLUMBIA (WACH) — Protestors gathered at the South Carolina State House over the Confederate flag Thursday.
The SC Conservative Action Council is calling for the flag to be put back on top of the State House dome.
Organizers say on this day in 1865, South Carolina was the victim of a war crime when General Sherman burned the Capital City.
"We feel it’s been swept under the rug, that it has been kept quiet for a long time and we want the true history of all the aspects of the Civil War to be known by the people, not just of South Carolina, but all over," says organizer William Carter.
Organizers want to meet with Governor Nikki Haley in hopes she will allow a national day for South Carolina to recognize what happened in 1865.
