Is It Finally Time to Let the South Secede?

Is It Finally Time to Let the South Secede?Who says Yankees never have good ideas? Here’s one with a peach of an idea:
According to Chuck Thompson, a veteran travel writer who toured the American South, a degree of mutual enmity between Northerners and Southerners continues to be a source of cultural tension and political gridlock. We remain divided even as we have grown to become the world’s superpower. In his new book, Better Off Without ‘Em: A Northern Manifesto For Southern Secession , Thompson argues that it may be time for a divorce – to shake hands and go our separate ways.
Yuck! Do we HAVE to shake hands with them?
It might be worth the risk — after all, Purell is cheap — and this Yankee actually makes sense:
I’ve spent a lot of my life hearing from everybody from Seattle to Savannah. Almost every American, at one time or another, has said that it’s too bad the country didn’t just split when we had the chance. We didn’t let the South go when we had the chance. We would have avoided a lot of problems. We – meaning this group in the north as we might identify ourselves – could take the country we want into a direction that we think is befitting of America without this push and pull that comes from the Southern states. At the same time the South could do the same thing.
What really led to this call for secession was understanding that a lot of people from the South are just as sick and tired of people like Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid having an impact on their country as I am sick of people like Newt Gingrich and Jeff Sessions, Eric Cantor, Haley Barbour having an impact on my country.
Hold on — does this mean WE get stuck with Newt Gingrich?
I guess every deal has its price. And besides, everyone will be happy — the North and Left Coast can have their same-sex "marriage," open borders, and multiculturalism. We get a country of our own, one we feel part of, rather than a country where we’re treated like criminals and terrorists because we want to preserve our way of life.
In case no one’s noticed, this is earth-shaking. The first step toward secession has been taken: People are talking about it; it’s part of the political dialogue. That genie is out of the bottle, and nothing the government supremacists can do will get it back in. And as the Empire continues to self-destruct, more people will realize there’s no other course of action possible to save us from endless war, skyrocketing debt, and total surveillance.
It’s an idea whose time has come. Know hope.
