Did You Spot the Neo-Confederate at the Republican Convention?

Today’s Washington Post had a big story about Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican convention. I was out of the country and didn’t watch, but the Post had a picture of Clint and in the background was a large electronic mural of him portraying "The Outlaw Josey Wales," the title of my favorite Eastwood movie. In that movie Clint portrays a southern yeoman farmer whose wife and children are murdered in cold blood by U.S. Army "soldiers" during the Lincoln regime. He responds by joining the Confederates. When the war ends and his company surrenders, the U.S. Army "soldiers" murder all of them after they surrender — except for Clint, who escapes. The rest of the movie is about how the government then put a bounty on "Josey’s" head. He ends up killing all the bad guys in the end, of course.

I expect the Southern Poverty Law Center to quickly issue one of its slapstick "intelligence reports" (ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!) labeling Clint a "racist" and by implication, tarring Romney with that label as well. This of course is their schtick: To insinuate that there can be no legitimate criticisms of the welfare/warfare police state and that all such criticisms are purely based on racial hatred of our first (half) black president.
