The Sumter Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold a rededication ceremony and blessing of the Dingle’s Mill Civil War Battlefield at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29. SCV member Robert L. Brown said the purpose of the ceremony is "to recognize those volunteers who have donated time, effort and resources to the improvement and protection of our local … Civil War history and historical sites; educate the public on our Sumter history and historical sites; and rededicate our responsible agencies’ efforts in this worthwhile preservation effort."

Sumter SCV Commander Stan Rawls said the public is invited to attend the program, which will include a history of the Dingle’s Mill battle, presented by Brown, who is a past commander of the Sumter SCV. The Rev. Charlie Walton will bless the battlefield, where men on both sides of the conflict were wounded or killed; several are buried on the site.
