MIDLAND – The ground rattled at the sound of military muskets and cannon-fire at the Confederate’s Heroes Day celebration this morning in the tall city.

The event commemorates the birthdays of both Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

Men and women dressed in military uniforms honored 32 men who are buried at Fairview Cemetery in Midland.

The group’s goal is to help keep this chapter of history alive.

Members plan to hold other events in the upcoming months.
